What are common problems?

The convertible top seems to be the most common problem with the M100. They are notoriously leaky, but the plastic window isn't prone to cloud or tear easily. They are expensive- so be careful!

Another problem is the cam angle sensor. The most obvious symptom of this is the check engine light appearring and an inability to rev past 4000 rpm. It is available from Isuzu for about $100.

How much does it cost?

The only model year available in the US is the 1991, and to the delight of M100 owners, the depreciation of this car is among the lowest of any sold in America over the past 50 years.  Originally they sold for over $40,000, but by 1994 prices hovered around $20,000.  Currently, excellent examples will run you about $15,000. Prices have dropped in the past five years, and most are worth in the neighborhood of $8500 - $12,500. Red is the most common color, and thus is worth less - generally selling in the $8000-$10,000 range.

How big is the trunk?

Lotus quotes a 5 cubic foot area, and it is big enough to be usable. It holds suitcases and is nearly big enough for golf clubs. WARNING- water is known to leak into this area, so expensive stereo equip should go under the seats!

Can I do my own oil changes?

It's a tough job, and replacing the filter is damn near impossible. The filter is available from Isuzu for an average price, part # 8-97140666-0 Size M Group 1.836 It is also available from FRAM, get the DoubleGuard DG3593A that fits the Isuzu Impulse 1.6 liter Turbo. (The same engine!)
